HISTORY OF MBAVAA COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL, AMIUA - GAAV

Mbavaa Community Secondary School Amua-Gaav was conceived and born on the 14th October, 1978 and it was approved in 1979 by the state Ministry of Education Makurdi, Benue State.

The idea to have a Secondary School in Mbavaa was conceived by His Royal Highness Chief Thomas Jam Gbinde (JP). Terikyo, at the time he conceived this idea and brought it to the people of Mbavaa, he was not a traditional ruler yet. At that time he was the chairman of Gyakor Self Development Association (G/SDA). He was also the District Census officer. This made him travel far and wide. He discovered that the people of Mbavaa had no Secondary School as at that time. He saw that those who were in this area may not be privileged to attend any Secondary School after leaving Primary School and their education will terminate there. It could be that only very few may be privilege to further their education after Primary School because they will go out of locality. This was how this idea of leaving a Secondary School around Mbavaa was brought to the lime light.

The elders and the people of Mbavaa, including Zaki Adagba Zua consented to this idea. He gave vast land for the building at the school. Though the school situated at Agbeede the name of Amua was used. This was at the instance of Zaki Adagba Zua, who felt that Amua had contributed to the construction of the road passing through Anshagba to Ge; so his name should be immortalized by naming Mbavaa Community Secondary School, after him (Amua). The motto of the school is "Knowledge is Light".
